LIFE, a source of funding for environmental projects, was
created in 1992 by the European Commission to assist the
implementation, updating, and development of European Community
policies and legislation related to the environment
LIFE co-funds projects with the potential for improving
Europe's environment
LIFE targets projects that:
- are demonstrations or preliminary projects for the development
and updating of the policy basis for the European Community's
environmental legislation
- have an average duration of 2 to 3 years
- have a total budget of 1 million to 5 million euros
LIFE comprises three main areas of activity:
- LIFE Nature works to conserve natural habitats and the
wild fauna and flora according to the European Birds and
Habitats directives
- LIFE Third countries concerns technical assistance activities
for promoting sustainable development in third countries
- LIFE Environment supports innovative activities related
to the environment
GEDEON is one of 13 French projects that won funding from
LIFE Environment in 2004.
