This programme aims to reduce the use of certain plastics such as PS and films, a survey is online to assess the eco-design challenges for the furniture industry.

Decree 2021-517 of 29 April 2021, known as the 3R decree, sets reduction, reuse and recycling targets with the following objectives

  • 20% reduction in single-use packaging by the end of 2025
  • Aim for a 100% reduction in “unnecessary” single-use plastic packaging by the end of 2025
  • Aim for 100% recycling of single-use plastic packaging by 1 January 2025

In parallel, Article 72 of the AGEC law provides for the “Implementation of a prevention and eco-design plan with the aim of reducing the use of non-renewable resources, increasing the use of recycled materials and increasing the recyclability of its products in processing facilities located on the national territory”.

Consequently, furniture manufacturers and distributors are directly concerned by the objective of reducing the use of plastic packaging and by the implementation of a prevention and eco-design plan.

Therefore, FCBA is launching the ECEA programme in 2022 to raise awareness among market players about the eco-design of furniture packaging, focusing on two types of plastic packaging: expanded polystyrene and heat-shrinkable films.  The aim of the programme is to identify solutions to reduce or even eliminate the use of this plastic packaging in furniture.

This programme will be monitored by CITEO, the French furniture industry, the FNAEM and industrialists, and is financially supported by CODIFAB

The project is structured in 3 phases:

  • State of the art
  • Pilot experiments
  • Dissemination of results

In order to better understand the issues related to the substitution of plastic packaging used for furniture products, we are soliciting furniture manufacturers and distributors through a questionnaire.

The results will help to identify current barriers and initiatives to promote the dissemination of solutions and good practices. This questionnaire includes qualitative questions that do not require upstream data collection. The questionnaire must be completed in one go, it is not possible to complete it in several rounds. We thank you for your time in facilitating the dissemination of good practice in the furniture sector.
