Assessment of the ignitability of upholstered furniture - Part 1 : Ignition source smoldering cigarette

Assessment of the ignitability of upholstered furniture - Part 1 : Ignition source smoldering cigarette
The purpose of this test is to evaluate the ignitability of upholstered furniture using a burning cigarette.

This standard subjects an assembly of furniture materials to a combustion ignition source. The assembly is arranged to represent, in stylized form, a junction between a seat and a backrest (or between a seat and an armrest) as in a running seat. The ignitability of an assembly is determined by applying a combustion ignition source such as a cigarette. The test method measures the ignitability of the composite of materials as a whole, i.e., the outer and inner coatings, padding, etc., as mounted on the test apparatus.
The tests give an indication but cannot guarantee the behavior of the finished furnishing item on ignition.
The results should not be established as applicable to the general behaviour of each individual component.
