Determination of protective efficacy against Lyctus brunneus

Determination of protective efficacy against Lyctus brunneus
Standards NF EN 20-1 and NF EN 20-2 describe methods for determining the protective efficacy of a wood preservative against infestation by Lyctus brunneus. Part 1: Application by surface treatment – Part 2: Application by impregnation (Laboratory method)

As part of the marketing authorisations for European biocidal products, these two tests are referenced in standard EN 599-1.

The treated wood blocks are placed in the presence of adult Lyctus brunneus beetles. Fertilised females will lay eggs on the wood. After a minimum of 20 weeks of testing, the emergence of new adults is monitored on untreated wood (controls).

Once the test has begun, all wood, both treated and control, is observed and then cut to assess the emergence of adults and the number of live and dead larvae inside the treated and untreated wood.
