Determination of the abrasion resistance of fabrics using the Martindale method

The purpose of this test is to evaluate the abrasion resistance of the textile fabric.
A circular test specimen, secured in a specimen holder and subjected to a defined load, is rubbed against an abrasive material (standard fabric) in a translational motion tracing a Lissajous curve, with the specimen holder able to rotate freely about its axis perpendicular to the plane of the specimen. The abrasion resistance of the textile fabric is evaluated based on the test interval before the specimens deteriorate.
