Effectiveness on European subterranean termites of the genus Reticulitermes – Laboratory test
Standard NF EN 118 describes a test method for determining the preventive efficacy of wood preservatives applied as surface treatments against European subterranean termites of the genus Reticulitermes.

As part of the marketing authorisation process for European biocidal products, this test is referenced in standard EN 599-1 and is one of the required tests.

Blocks of Scots pine treated with the product to be tested are exposed to termite colonies for 8 weeks. The wood treated at a given concentration is the insects’ sole source of food.

The evaluation criteria are termite mortality after 8 weeks and a visual assessment of the damage caused to the treated wood by the insects during their exposure.
