Labelling of building and decoration products

Labelling of building and decoration products
In order to provide consumers with transparent information on the level of volatile organic compound emissions from a building or decorative product, manufacturers are required to include information on this subject on the label. This is known as building product labelling.

The protocol specifies a general laboratory test method for determining the specific emission rate per unit area of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from newly manufactured construction products or items of equipment, under defined climatic conditions.

In principle, the method can also be applied to aged products. The emission data obtained can be used to calculate concentrations in a model room.

Expertise :

VOC/aldehyde testing in accordance with ISO 16000 standards
Relevant standards: ISO 16000 Parts 3, 6, 9 and 11, and EN 16516 for the construction industry

Article L221-10 of the Environment Code: construction and furnishing products, as well as wall and floor coverings, paints and varnishes that emit substances into the ambient air, are subject to a labelling requirement for volatile pollutants with effect from 1 January 2012
