The adhesive systems most commonly used today are mostly petroleum-based solutions (glues, etc.).

The search for ‘glue-free‘ assembly processes is therefore of interest in the current context.

In addition, the elimination of plastic in packaging is creating new problems with regard to the sealability of new materials.

Heat sealing and ultrasonic welding are relevant alternatives, already widely used in industry, to achieve ‘glueless’ joints.

Ultrasonic welding is a well established and widely used technology for joining thermoplastic parts, sealing packaging and bonding nonwovens.

Marie Caron's CTP program:
  • Present the ‘glueless’ technologies of heat sealing and ultrasonic welding
  • Compare their advantages and disadvantages
  • Present an application example of a recyclable and compostable cup, welded by ultrasound
