Webinar Valonoix project: Identification of ways to valorise walnut shells
Date Le 08.06.2022
The VALONOIX project, financed under the PolyNat call for projects, aimed to identify ways of using walnut shells, a biomass that is still little exploited and present in large quantities in the Grenoble region.

It has thus made it possible to establish the possible recovery routes for walnut shell extracts and extraction residues by determining the chemical composition, the macro-molecular characteristics of the constituents, and the nature and biological properties of these extractable compounds in order to envisage their recovery on high added value markets. The potential of the solid extraction residues to be used as reinforcing or functional fillers in materials such as wood and paper panels was also evaluated.
This project involved the Department of Molecular Pharmacochemistry (DPM), FCBA and CTP, laboratories that are members of the Carnot Institute Polynat.

The presentation of this project highlights our approach to the valorisation of new materials, agricultural co-products or industrial by-products, illustrated by the work carried out on walnut shells.

Main points addressed:

  • Walnut shell: a new source of molecules of interest
  • Valorisation of residues in panels and paper products.
