The Noir&Sens project consists of investigating the potential use of so-called surface burning of wood for indoor and outdoor applications. Led by FIBOIS Centre-Val de Loire, it consisted of developing a machine for surface burning wood and evaluating its suitability for use in cladding and outdoor furniture.

Innovative methodology for the non-destructive evaluation of timber frame walls by SCAN

MOBSCAN is an exploratory project, financed by the CARNOT MECD and ARTS springboards, whose objective is to develop a non-destructive testing (NDT) measurement protocol corresponding to a first wood-frame wall configuration. It is a combination of image analysis techniques using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and a complementary analysis using Infra Red Thermography (IRT).

Since the initiation of the maritime pine breeding programme in the 1960s, many improved varieties, especially for growth and straightness, have been developed. During the different selection cycles, tree identity errors have been accumulated, resulting in an imprecision of the genetic values of the individuals and thus a decrease in the potential genetic gain in the improved varieties.

MOVAP: performance of exterior wood finishes

The MOVAP project "Modelling the artificial ageing of wood paint products", funded by the Conseil Régional de la Nouvelle Aquitaine, has recently highlighted the interest in monitoring variations in hardness and gloss of exterior finishes exposed to ageing. At present, these two criteria are not used to assess the performance of finishes according to the EN 927 standards. However, the project shows that these two quantities are indicative of the performance of the coating, that they are correlated and that they allow the detection of microcracks in the coating before they are visible to the eye.

In this context, the VIBOIS project aims to analyse the vibratory behaviour of floors under different stresses, both experimentally and numerically, depending on the constructional provisions implemented. The understanding of the physical phenomena involved in the process as well as the experimental results will lead to design rules.
