Within the framework of Woodrise 2023, FCBA launches the 1st WoodRise seismic challenge. This is a national and international competition to design earthquake resistant wood structures.

The objective of the competition is to design a structure capable of resisting the vibrations of the seismic table.

The aim is to involve engineering students from different backgrounds in an innovative project that can be an opportunity for participants and the public to learn more about the particularities of wooden buildings and their dynamic behaviour.

The competition takes place in the FCBA’s mechanics laboratory in Bordeaux, which has a large seismic table (6m x 6m) capable of stressing the structures along an axis.

The stages of the competition

  • September 2022: Launch of the call for applications
  • January 2023: End of the call for applications
  • February 2023: Selection of candidates
  • March – October 2023: Manufacture of the models
  • October 2023: Seismic testing of the models.
This final stage will take place in parallel with the WoodRise conference in Bordeaux.
