The number of substances of very high concern (SVHC) is now 223.

As a reminder, the substances included in the candidate list are not subject to a ban or restriction and can continue to be placed on the market.

However, for substances contained in articles (i.e. in furniture or furnishing elements), as soon as the concentration of the substance contained in the article is higher than 0.1% mass/mass:

  • Suppliers of articles must provide their recipients (industrial or professional users, or distributors) with sufficient information available to them to allow safe use of the article, including at least the name of the substance (Article 33 of the REACh Regulation).
  • Upon request from consumers, relevant information must be provided within 45 days of receipt of the request.
  • Producers or importers of articles must notify ECHA of the presence of a substance in the articles they produce or import, if the quantity of substance present exceeds one tonne/year (Article 7.2 of REACh).

Since 5 January 2021, this same information must be communicated to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), via the SCIP (Substances of Concern In Products) database
