Determination of the efficacy threshold against Hylotrupes bajulus larvae (or house longhorn beetle)

Determination of the efficacy threshold against Hylotrupes bajulus larvae (or house longhorn beetle)
Standard NF EN 47 describes a method for determining the effectiveness threshold of a wood preservative against Hylotrupes bajulus larvae (or house longhorn beetles) after they have been introduced into wood that has been previously treated by impregnation. The purpose of this test is to determine the effectiveness of a preventive treatment product against Hylotrupes bajulus. (Laboratory method)

As part of the marketing authorisations for European biocidal products, this test is referenced in standard EN 599-1 and is one of the required tests.

For the NF EN 47 test, blocks of wood are treated by impregnation with a preservative at a range of defined concentrations. Larvae of the common furniture beetle are then introduced into the test tubes and their survival rate is assessed at regular intervals in order to determine the minimum effective concentration.
