Drying and ISPM 15 Treatment

Drying and ISPM 15 Treatment
Laboratory drying tests on processes and wood materials. On-site diagnostics and testing concerning the drying and ISPM 15 treatment of wooden packaging.

The drying laboratory is equipped with an Air Conditioned Hot Air (ACH) pilot dryer that can be used to conduct drying tests on a load of wood measuring approximately 1 m³.

This scale makes it possible to reproduce the behaviour of the material during drying on an industrial scale, but using only a very limited volume of wood. This makes it possible to test new drying methods or the behaviour of new species.

FCBA characterises drying performance according to criteria of drying uniformity and quality (splits, warping, collapse, colour, etc.).

FCBA also offers comprehensive on-site diagnostics of the drying process. These diagnostics take into account all aspects related to drying:

Processes and methods (drying tables, humidity control, loading methods, etc.)
Equipment (general condition, sensors, etc.)
Storage of wood before and after drying

The diagnostics aim to improve the quality and/or costs associated with drying.

These diagnostics can include aspects related to ISPM 15 treatment of packaging wood to ensure compliance with regulations and limit the risk of potentially very costly damage. In addition, we offer sensor calibration that meets the requirements of the compliance programme.
