Hardness testing (indentation method)

Hardness testing (indentation method)
The purpose of this test is to determine the compressive strength of the test specimen (the force required to compress the specimen by 40% of its thickness) and to determine whether the foam is comfortable enough for use in a seat.

The test involves measuring the forces required to produce specified indentations under prescribed conditions. The specimen is compressed to 25%, 40%, 65%, and 70% of its initial thickness; the forces required for compression are then measured, and these correspond to the indentation hardness values.
