Tests on termite control products and traps – Laboratory and field methods
The XP/NF X41-543 standard comprises three parts: the first is a set of laboratory methods defining criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of anti-termite products. The second part describes a field method for determining the effectiveness of products in real conditions. The third part is a specification standard specifying the performance criteria to be achieved for each test.

As part of the marketing authorisation process for European biocidal products, these tests, cited in the ‘Guidance on the BPR: Vol II parts B+C, version 4.1’, may be required.

Standard XP X41-543-1 assesses the effectiveness of termite bait trap systems in the laboratory. There are three tests (A, B, C) which, together with field tests, must be carried out on the same insecticide formulation.

Test A determines whether there is a delayed effect of the tested formulation on termite mortality. Test B evaluates the transmission of the product from a contaminated population to a healthy population. Test C evaluates the effectiveness of the product in eliminating a group of termites in a situation of food competition.

Part 2 of standard NF X 41-543-2 proposes a procedure for monitoring the effectiveness of anti-termite bait trap formulations at experimental sites.

Part 3 XP X 41-543-3 is a specification standard specifying the performance criteria to be achieved for each of the tests in the two previous standards.
