Determining preventive action against newly hatched larvae of Hylotrupes bajulus (or house longhorn beetle) - Part 1
Part 1: Application by surface treatment. Standard NF EN 46-1 describes a method for assessing the preventive action of a wood preservative against newly hatched larvae of Hylotrupes bajulus when the product is applied to wood by surface treatment. (Laboratory method). Standard NF EN 46-2 describes a method for evaluating the preventive action of a wood preservative against Hylotrupes bajulus eggs when the product is applied to wood by surface treatment.

As part of the marketing authorisations for European biocidal products, these two tests are referenced in standard EN 599-1 and are among the tests required.

EN46-1: Treated Scots pine blocks are prepared for exposure to longhorn beetle larvae less than 72 hours old. These young larvae are held in place by a glass slide tilted against the treated surface. Their ability to bore into the wood and their survival rate after 4 or 12 weeks are assessed.
